Volkswagen T25 / T3 Danbury Showman Camper Model History
Circa 1981 Danbury introduced the T25 / T3 Volkswagen Danbury Showman. This seems to be a model based on the Danbury Series II but with some additional extras as standard. As with the Series II it had a fully automatic side elevating pop top roof called the “Autoroof”. The Showman was advertised as being a six seater. The layout consisted of a middle seat with reversible back rest and a rear seat that folded to create a double bed. The Showman had cupboards along the offside wall. Incorporated into the side cupboards were a 2 burner stove and grill, sink and drainer and a fridge. The engine options were either the 1600 cc or the 2000 cc CU air cooled engines. Note that during the production period of this model various changes were made to the specification including changes to upholstery materials, electrical control panels, furniture design etc. Where possible I will try and show examples of any updates and the approximate date of any change in the descriptions below. 4) Volkswagen T25 / T3 Danbury Showman Camper Furniture Specification The Volkswagen T25 / T3 Danbury Showman layout consisted of:
Units have teak finish. Upholstered in latest easy clean fabric from USA. 102 mm high density foam cushions. All cupboard doors have crank hinges so they fold back flush against units. Cutlery drawer.
1) Drivers seat. 2) Passenger seat. 3) Easy fit “coffee break” table between driver and passenger seats. 4) Forward facing seats. Seats can be repositioned to create a large double bed (1956 mm x 1346 mm). 5) Double seat with reversible back rest that could be flipped to make the lounge. A dinette can be created by locating the removable table using the central leg. 6) Unit on offside wall contains Lytham Adventurer two burner stove with grill.
7) Sink and drainer located in unit adjacent to cooker. Tap is switched on and off via a retractable foot pump. 8) Electrolux RM 122 Fridge.
9) Jacket length wardrobe.
Other features include: The windows were fully curtained. Three two gallon water containers (six gallons of water storage in total). 240 volt hook up / plug socket. Start inhibitor to prevent vehicle being started when hook up plugged in. Zig CF6 Electrical control panel with fuses, battery condition indicator and vehicle battery recharging facility. 12 Volt television socket. Two fluorescent lights. Fully carpeted floor. Side step. Sliding window. Ashtray in rear.

The Danbury Showman had an electrically operated fully automatic elevating roof called the “Autoroof”. Danbury fibreglass elevating roof runs full length of the vehicle. Fully upholstered bed in roof (1829 mm x ?? mm). Fluorescent light and bedside table in roof. Switch for roof is in a lockable cupboard. Easy to use hatchway access to double roof bed.
